As the days start to get longer we tend to get busy and suddenly, it's dinner time! We need quick delicious options and tacos are crowd-pleasers that do not disappoint! With a little forethought, we can ensure that our families get all the nutrients they need while also having happy taste buds. Incorporating herbs like cilantro into meals will help boost immunity and detoxify, while spices like cumin and chili powder will increase antioxidant intake, help lower cholesterol, and increase blood flow. Experiment with making different sauces to drizzle on top of your tacos by combining ingredients such as sour cream, mayo, siracha, cilantro, and spices to taste. Feel free to switch out lean proteins and veggies for variety, and remember that prepping in advance makes for smooth sailing!

Recipe: Cilantro Lime Shrimp Tacos


  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin

  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro

  • Juice of 2 limes

  • 8 small corn or flour tortillas

  • Optional toppings: shredded cabbage, diced avocado, feta or cotija cheese, sour cream, salsa


  1. In a large bowl, toss the shrimp with olive oil, minced garlic, ground cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper.

  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the seasoned shrimp to the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until pink and opaque.

  3. Remove the skillet from the heat and stir in chopped cilantro and lime juice.

  4. Warm the tortillas in a dry skillet or microwave.

  5. To assemble the tacos, fill each tortilla with a few shrimp and your favorite toppings.

  6. Serve the tacos with additional lime wedges on the side.
